tried to post earlier today...

I tried to post earlier today but it didn't post:) I know that has happened to everyone at least once in their blogging life. It was about struggling and how we do not even comprehend the true definition of what it means to struggle. I woke up this morning thinking of my pappous in Greece. Here is a man that I know. He's 90 years old and has lived a very long, full life. The first ten years of his life, his father was fighting in WWI and then fought the communists. Ten years. He didn't even know his father for the first ten years of his life. Can you imagine what his mother had to live through.. not knowing whether or not her husband was alive or dead? And they were hungry because everyone was poor. That's struggling. And we can't comprehend this type of struggle.

Dont forget that your own father lived through post WWII, and then civil war in Greece. His island was occupied by the Germans and Italians.
They moved all the people to the mountains and lived in their homes.
I cant even imagine........
everyone has their own pain, but to really struggle, we dont have a clue!

mom... i'm only beginning to comprehend the daily struggles that even dad went through in his life. and i do know that each of us has our struggles sufficient to what we can handle, in a sense, but it just seems like we don't even know what it is to truly have to struggle, every day, just to survive. and then to keep your faith in God intact throughout that struggle. like dad and yiayia and pappous and nouno and all these people in our life... that's probably part of the miracle of it all... the not losing faith.

And forgive me & my Family too my dear Sister for any trangressions, known or unknown that I caused due to my sinfulness.

May the Lenten journey (and you DO NOT have to fast to experience the journey, especially after having surgery!) be for us all a meaningful spritual event, that stays with us all the year through.

The Monks of St. Issac wrote this in their pascha news letter last year and I have kept it to remind me of why need to have Lent/Pascha:

Each year at this time we begin to think about this Holy Season and the lifegiving events that so shaped our world just over two thousand years ago that all life was renewed by them. For Christ in fulfilling all things set before Him by his loving Father, took upon Himself all of our sins so that we might follow Him up that road to Golgotha, and die ourselves to all that is sinful, to be with Him. O, what an incomprehensible wonder!

Miss you very much and hope your feeling better each day. Love, Athena, Demetrios and Blake Anthony :o)

I think that is why there are so many churches in Greece. People there have had such a turbulent history, and have never lost faith.
Petros' island is just tiny, and has 365 churchs on it (for your readers info)

Oh, I agree, what a beautiful post, Athena.

And, what an intersting history of Petros' island and how many churches. Thanks be to God!
